D&D Next / A concern

The internet is awash with opinion and conjecture about the pending 5th edition of Dungeons and Dragons.
I have no intention or authority to add to it, but I do have a concern.

One of the possible goals of this new edition is to bridge the gap between OSG, 3.5 and 4th ed.

Does this mean WotC are going to sell us conversion guides?

  1. I hope that they provide conversion guides instead of selling them. Selling them (or it) would get in the way of helping players of all editions.

  2. I think it's very likely that, like the 3.0 to 3.5 conversion, or Paizo's D&D-to-Pathfinder conversion guides, WotC will provide free conversion guides for the new generation. HOWEVER-- just like all the conversion guides I listed-- you'll need to buy the core rules to make sense of the conversion guide itself.
